PSA: Hanson has a new album out today called "Shout It Out" and it is like... the catchiest thing since MMMBop. :-D If you're looking for something that'll make you want to get up and dance, I highly recommend it.

I was going to upload one of the tracks for you as a freebie but I'm at Starbucks and I think the wi-fi connection is a little too weak to handle that. So just imagine some fun pop-rock with a dash of blues-funk added in there! I guess. Or listen to the clips at iTunes.
sororcula: ([psych] Lassiter/Juliet say what?)
It's pretty fucking unfortunate that a member of a band that has lyrics about "country music without prejudice" and "leading the freak parade" would be quoted as saying, "Hey, you’ve got to hit this gay thing head on, you’re not gay, are you? If you are, people won’t have it. It’s sick, it’s deviant; it’s unacceptable to country music fans."

Heeey fizellas!

Okay, first of all: There is this fellow named Ron Pope who just released a new single on iTunes, "A Drop In The Ocean." This is me officially pimping it. It's not my FAVORITE SONG in the world, but it's lovely and I think he's very talented and charming. His record deal is brand-spankin'-new and I think it would be nice to see him successful. Also, he posts Tweets like Trying to "pick myself up by the bootstraps" is failing. Thinking about taking off the boots and drinking a bottle of red wine barefoot. which frankly is a philosophy I can get behind.

Ugh, I can't believe I used the word "fellow." I'm turning into my father. :-/

Aaaanyway. I'm kind of tired right now. Overall I think it's been a pretty good day, though. Yesterday we had, like, torrential rain, but today we only had a little bit, so I didn't get soaked. Now I'm online for a little bit because I need to e-mail one of my TAs, and then I need to go home and do some reading and writing.

I need to decide whether to stop by a burrito place I keep walking by but haven't been in yet for dinner, or whether to go home and forage for something... Hmm.

Okay, taking from [ profile] bubbleslayer:

(1) Turn on your MP3 player.
(2) Go to SHUFFLE songs mode.
(3) Write down the first 25 songs that come up--artist and song title--NO editing/cheating.

Watched Thoughtcrimes this evening and once again am wishing it had been made into a TV show. Ah well.

Also, I had been planning to sign up for [ profile] mixingmusic this month but I can't come up with a good prompt, so I'm not sure if I will. Instead, I am grabbing this meme from [ profile] winterweathered:

Pick one of my fics and I'll make you a mini-mix (2-5 songs) to go with it.

ETA: I really like this meme, BTW, so I am declaring it open-ended. If you stumble across this post a month or a year from now and want a mix, you are totally welcome to comment.

It's a beautiful day out! Here are three songs I listened to while I walked home from the gym today:

Wilco - Thirteen
Corb Lund Band - Hair In My Eyes Like a Highland Steer
John Lee Hooker - Send Me Your Pillow

What are you listening to?

Oh, look, guys, it's my childhood! Where Are They Now?: 90's/00's Boy/Girl Bands Edition.

I looked at the first group listed and thought, "Dream? Never heard of them," but as soon as I hit play on the YouTube video, I recognized the song and was practically able to sing every word. AH, MEMORIES.

(This particular comment thread is pretty great. It amazes me to discover how many of these old songs were blatantly about sex and I never realized it as a little teenybopper. *sigh*)
sororcula: ([hanson] zac is sexier than you)
I am in such a Hanson-y mood tonight I had to switch out one of my icons just to make this post. I just spent like an hour on YouTube. So HERE, have some videos!

For all the times I drew the Hanson symbol on my skin in Sharpie )

Alas, nobody appears to have taken a video of this historic event, so here's an mp3 of Hanson covering Dirrty by Christina Aguilera.
sororcula: ([mentalist] Lisbon bang bang)
Okay, I really TRIED to solve this on my own, but I am giving up, so, you know... help me, flist, you're my only hope.

I have a Mac. On this Mac I have downloaded a .wma file. I want to play this file in iTunes. How do I turn it into an mp3 to do so??

I tried and it didn't work. I don't really want to download anything but I will if I have to. It just seems like there MUST be an easier way to go about this.

Five things that make me happy today:

1. Why Shouldn't We - Mary Chapin Carpenter

2. This lolhedgehog.

3. Everybody who's wished me a happy birthday today. ♥

4. The fact that the homework I have to do today is at least interesting.

5. The hilarious card [ profile] elysium1996 sent me. Hahahaha.

Does anybody have an mp3 of "Sweet and Low" by Augustana? Got it, thanks.

Also, I'm digging this guy's music:

He's opening for Hanson on a few dates in November, including the one closest to me.

Snagged from [ profile] mercilynn:

1) On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first 15 songs on the list.
2) Write down one or two lines of each song. Try to avoid putting the song title in the line.
3) Have your friends comment and see if they know the songs.
4) When someone guesses correctly, strike out the line and list the correct name of the song next to it.

(Note: I'm skipping mashups and other special/unrecognizable/completely obscure songs, FYI. Aaand it's not part of the rules, but if when a song is guessed I'll upload it.)

Haha, sorry, I... couldn't get most of those, MYSELF. Heh. Good luck?

I went to and put in Mary Chapin Carpenter and it has been playing the BEST music.

Also, I am 85 words into a Jo drabble.
sororcula: ([spn] Jo)
My iPod creeps me out a little bit. I have it on random, and it just played an mp3 of Meg's exorcism from Devil's Trap, and then switched to "In The Sweet By And By" by Johnny Cash. It's, uh, an odd effect. And kind of creepy.
sororcula: ([numb3rs] Colby oh please)
Ugh, man, I'm kind of... tired and headachey and hungry, and I don't feel like studying. At ALL. I have a math test tomorrow. I might seriously cry if I get another C (or WORSE, omg) in this class.

Last night [ profile] mercilynn and I decided we should write something, so we figured, okay, go with the latest [ profile] numb3rs100 prompt ("devotion") and cook up some drabbles. I told her to write David/Colby, and she gave me a choice between Don/Megan and Coop/Charlie. She wrote this drabble: Hopelessly Devoted To You (haha, this title keeps making me laugh). And I... wrote gen. And, um, went over 400 words?

Haha. The funniest thing was, I wrote it, and looked at it, and thought, wow. Where does one even POST 300+ word genfic? ([ profile] numb3rs_fic, right?) Anyway, so. It's not really fit for public consumption yet, but it has promise, so hopefully I can post that sometime later in the week.

My Spanish teacher asked us what we're going to do for Spring Break next week, and everybody's like, "Go down to L.A.!" etc., and he got to me and I said, "Um, sleep. And study." He said, "You're not going anywhere? Not doing anything special?" and I'm thinking, UM. SLEEP. Yeah.

Do you guys all know who Brandi Carlile is? I've been listening to her album The Story a lot recently, and I'm so in love with her music. So, in case you aren't familiar, here are a couple of songs:

The Story - Brandi Carlile
Josephine - Brandi Carlile

I always hear all these songs that make me think of SPN, so recently I've been sort of half-heartedly thinking of making a SPN fanmix. Today while I was on the bus, I had my iPod on random and a song by Train came on. I thought, hmm, I like this, I wonder if it would work with SPN... ehh, nah. But I thought, well, maybe there is another Train song that would work. So:

Me: *selects "artist: Train, all"* *hits play*
iPod: *plays "She's On Fire"*
Me: O.o

And now I need to convince myself that grades matter. *eyes homework skeptically*

Hey! Does anyone have (or is able to *cough* find) an mp3 of "Strawberry Wine" by Deana Carter?

A friend of mine made me a mix CD that has a LOT of Carrie Underwood on it and... I like Carrie Underwood, it's all good, but this is the same friend who had never heard of MERLE HAGGARD, so I want to educate her a bit in... slightly less modern country. :-) "Strawberry Wine" actually reminds me a bit of the Carrie Underwood stuff AND it's been one of my favorite songs since way before I was old enough to realize what the lyrics were talking about. Haha.

(I listened to a lot of drinkin' and cheatin' songs as a child. This occasionally concerns me.)

I just want to make sure she knows about Reba and Martina and Trisha and Wynonna and Dolly and OMG Tammy and Patsy and... SO ON. Before she gets all caught up in this newfangled stuff!

I'll keep this public, but comments are screened.

This is the second week in a row that I'm skipping church. Uh oh. At least this time I have the excuse of being sick. :-/

Anyway, to make up for it, I have iTunes set to play from my collection of Gospel music, so I thought I'd post some. I hope you guys like Johnny Cash and George Jones. :-)

I kind of want to make cookies! It's all gray and cold outside... that's cookie-baking weather, right? HMM... I don't have chocolate chips, but I have a block of chocolate I could smash with a hammer. We do have chocolate chips! They were in the freezer. :-/ Or I could just make brownies...

You know what I want to do? Other than the cookie thing, I mean. I want to upload a collection of country music Every Person should have. I worry sometimes that there are people out there who don't know who I'm talking about if I mention Merle or Waylon. Um. Not that I really ever mention them. But it's the principle of the thing. But I also have a feeling nobody would download it. So never mind.

I realized earlier that one reason I always think Connie Britton looks so familiar is that she bears a certain resemblance to the receptionist at my dentist's office. :-/
