Well, I guess it depends on your interests. I like historical romance and for that I turn to Jude Deveraux. If you read no other romance novel, I highly recommend "A Knight in Shining Armor." That was the first romance novel I ever read and to this day, it is my favorite. My cover is falling off of it I've read it so many times. It's got a bit of a magical element to it that I find fascinating. Another one of my favorite's by Jude is "Sweet Liar." If Michael Taggert were real, I would want to clone him and marry the clone because the real Michael is in love with Samantha from the book. (I live in a dream world, I'm not ashamed.) And lastly, her book "Remembrance" broke my heart and made me fall in love so deeply that I read it 15 years ago and to this day I can't read it again. It hurts too good. I cried for three days after finishing that book. It was so, so good.
If you like Ireland and a bit of Irish folk lore, I highly recommend Nora Robert's Series: Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, and Heart of the Sea. The Gallagher family = LOVE.
If you like Navy SEALS *nnnnnnnnnnngh* and smart men and smarter women, I recommend the Troubleshooters Series by Suzanne Brockman. Admittedly, some of the female characters are NOT smart. They are quite dumb and annoying. Often, the men can be just as dumb and annoying but the way Suzanne blends all the tales together throughout the 16 book series is just phenomenal. And all of the characters, even though they have their moments, are just these beautiful and complicated people that you can't help but fall in love with. Plus, I am pretty sure I've told you this before, one of the characters (who is one of the most awesome) is gay and she explores his relationships and lets him fall in love and have sex and kiss men and it's just... beautiful. Jules Cassidy is by far one of the most beautiful characters I've ever had the pleasure of reading. *sighs* Some money from her books goes to support PFLAG because Suzanne's own son is gay and she campaigns for equal rights and her son's right to get married some day. Some times her writing slips a bit but I'm a big fan of hers.
I don't know if this long winded explanation helps but those are some of my personal favorites anyway.
