I read romance to escape so I don't really think too much about the subtext or any of that. I just want a story that can make me disappear for a couple hours. All of the above suggestions fit that requirement.

And he's not really considered a romance writer but I'd suggest pretty much any book by Nicholas Sparks if you want a good romantic story. The Notebook had me in tears from beginning to end and Message in a Bottle was another book that made me cry for three days when I finished it.
