LOL. [livejournal.com profile] swingandswirl said she couldn't get into the Troubleshooters books while [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv is with me on how good they are. I read romance to escape so I don't really think too much about the subtext or any of that. I just want a story that can make me disappear for a couple hours. All of the above suggestions fit that requirement.

And he's not really considered a romance writer but I'd suggest pretty much any book by Nicholas Sparks if you want a good romantic story. The Notebook had me in tears from beginning to end and Message in a Bottle was another book that made me cry for three days when I finished it.

Lord knows with TV a lot of the time I can't turn off my sociologist's brain and I end up critiquing the shit out of it, but mostly with romance novels I think I'm able to just say at the beginning, OKAY, this is going to be RIDICULOUS, and then enjoy it. Haha.

IDK about Nicholas Sparks, idk if I really want something that will make me cry. I did see the Miley Cyrus movie based on his book (The Last Song) and I liked it.

Nicholas isn't for every one (though [livejournal.com profile] magisterequitum may have to jump here and convince you otherwise, LOL) but his stories are generally just really beautiful and sad and touching and sweet. You're heart broken at the end and yet completely hopeful. I can't explain it. If you like The Last Song, you should watch The Notebook. While Hollywood butchered Message in a Bottle, they completely nailed The Notebook in movie form. (Plus Ryan Gosling has a beard for half of it.) :)

That's really the only way to read a romance novel. If you take it too seriously, you'll drive yourself nuts. LOL.

Something else I was thinking about with the Troubleshooters books in particular, they make me laugh... a lot. She just writes this sarcastic wit that is right up my alley.

Nora's books also had several laughs in them. I like a book that can make me laugh and fall in love. :)

Yay, those are my favorites, for sure! One author I really like is Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She incorporates a lot of humor into her books. And football players. Ahem.
