Actually I watched with a friend and kept telling her that the Paire shippers must be going nuts over this. By now Petrellicest is practically canon when it comes to Nathan and Peter, but damn it if they aren't making Peter/Claire also reasonable.
Actually, after this ep, I'd buy Angela/Nathan. Sick, but he seems near helpless around her. Weird power dynamic...
Definitely, I noticed the amazing amounts of Paire fodder, too. I kept thinking, damn, a lot of these 'shippers probably gave up on the pairing when it was revealed Peter was Claire's uncle, and they must be SO frustrated watching this and feeling guilty over the 'ship! LOL. I never really even considered Paire much until tonight.
And yeah, I can see Angela/Nathan. She was a little creepier than usual tonight.
There was also a lot of Molar, what with that phone call Sylar made to Mohinder and everything. The two of them have such a fucked up relationship.
The Petrelli's remind me more and more of Shakespeare's incestuous Danish royal family in Hamlet. Actually it was bad enough before they cast Nathan as Claudius, but last night all I could do was watch for the the ghostClaude to show up.
Hee! This is where I admit that most of what I knew of Hamlet was gleaned from watched The Simpsons, although now I've also read the Wikipedia article about it, so I KIND of know what you mean. :-) (I don't know if you ever read the weekly soap opera summaries in the paper...not that I do, or anything... but the description of this play is exactly like those.)
So if Nathan is Claudius, do you see Peter as Hamlet? What are all the ways the show reminds you of the play? I for one noticed this bit in the article,
Next comes the 'Prayer Scene,' in which Hamlet finds Claudius, intending to kill him, but refrains because Claudius is praying.
(Hamlet = Hiro, Claudius = Sylar, eh?)
Hamlet then goes to talk to Gertrude, in the 'Closet Scene.' There, Gertrude becomes frightened of Hamlet, and screams for help. Polonius is hiding behind an arras in the room, and when he also yells for help, Hamlet stabs and kills him.
(Hamlet = Sylar, Gertrude = Sylar's mother, Polonius = Hiro and Ando, except Sylar didn't kill them--but he did try!) Okay, maybe this one is slightly weaker, but it made me pause.
I think the moral of the story is: The Petrellis are very incestuous. ;-)
